L.I.A.R ANALYSIS

Front Cover

Language;  This magazine has used the name of the artist and is in the colour red,bold letters attract attention , suggesting danger. The title has been placed over the main image and in centre to show the importance of this name because it will feature a-lot in the magazine. this also gives the audience a clear understanding who this magazine is for, this is shown through the style of the font and the colour. The magazine is aimed at older people, preferable men because of the colour scheme (black,blue,white) and the font, style. Colour scheme is hinting towards the audience what kind of genre this is because red is danger and rock people are rebellious towards music, they show their feelings towards this type of music throughout the song.

Institution;  The magazine label is 'mojo' and the company who owns the magazine is Bauer and Phil Alexander is the main editor of the Mojo Magazine. Mojo was first ever published on 15 October 1993, the aim was to keep the classic rock aesthetic , the first ever magazine (issue) had Bob Dylan and John Lennon as its first cover artists.

Ideology; Mojo uses short snappy phrases like The Stones or Exclusive which is suggesting that it can only ever be seen in this magazine. The colours of these headlines red and balck convey the darkness of this magazine that is very emotional and shows that this is a roc magazine. Wearing a black suit seems more formal and more focused to older generation that prefer rock and roll.

Audience; The main image is a male that looks about in 60's which would attract a target audience of an older generation. Whereas the colours are black, red and grey which are dark colours, therefore would receive a target audience that are deep and emotional. The layout of this front cover will attract a variety of ages mainly males but can have an audience of females.

Representation; the main image has a hand pointing straight at you which intimidates you. His facial expression is angry and fierce which will gain interest people who are rebellious against music and just don't have that many emotions. This would preferably interest a stereotypical emo that dresses in black clothing and have few emotions and take life chances

DPS ,Conventions.

Double Page Spread;

In addition to all these DPS they all include columns for the article. Articles in magazines tells the buyer what the updates are on this person or thing, or what secret is unveiled. Its common to all the magazines that on a double page spread, the main image takes up majority of the pages. This is to show the buyer that the image that is being shown is important to the article. In these magazines shown above they all have articles that are about the image shown or who the article is about. The articles to match the target audience. For example teenagers are not wanting to read pages on pages or paragraphs on paragraphs, teens would want read something short and not a-lot but wants to know everything. this is because teens would get bored of reading whereas adults would sit they and read paragraphs on their fan. the articles have got to match the genre and there target audience to succeed in profit and popularity. All music magazines have the same features on what is being said in the magazine, the thing that makes the magazines different is the genre and they buyer that is willing to retail the magazine. Also the genre that is being put across to the buyer is usually the colours and images and the stories. These are the most important features that are in a magazine because these are what draws they buyer in.

Contents Page, Conventions.

Contents page;

In each of these magazines hold images on the contents page. this is because it shows the buyer the kind of genre and artists that are in this magazine. Usually on a music magazine contents zine.page is numbers and pictures that tells the buyer what will be on that page and what its about. Although some magazines that have lots of issues usually gives a review on the last magazine that was issued, in case the buyer did'nt have chance to read the last issue. On the contents page of a music magazine will have the masthead of the magazine, e.g. 'Top of the Pops' at the top of the page so its clear to the buyer that the genre has'nt changed and its still the same genre. Although on the front cover of the magazine has that one main colour scheme it usually carries on to the contents page and sometimes throughout the magazine. This is to show the same type of magazine to the buyer next time they come to buy the next issue.

Front Cover, Conventions.

Front Covers;

Each of these front cover magazines have different poses and colours, however, these conventions are used to make it clear to the buyer what genre it is. All these magazines have one vibrant colour to represent their genre. For example for 'NME' magazine there main colour is red, this sets the genre for this magazine. The colour that is used the most (could be seen in the masthead, main image, story lines) is usually the one that catches the buyers eye. The colour and font you use for your front cover is critical for the buyer that you get it right. So they dont get the wrong magazine. The costume of the artist has to be right and bold to match the genre and season. Even the artist that is the main image matters it has to be someone that is popular an well known like the 'top 40' chart singers. Although the main image is important to the magazine, so is the sell lines. The sell lines need to be short and snappy for a 'pop' genre because this type of genre is aimed at teenagers and teens dont want to be reading paragraphs. Teens want advice , fashion and the latest updates. these magazines off their target audience most recent and popular artist and updates about them that the buyers want to know.
